William Nichols

1. Can you describe your role in the SDSS collaboration and what you enjoy most about it?

I am studying quasar Broad Absorption Line variability with Prof. Kate Grier at University of Wisconsin – Madison.

2. Can you tell us about your educational background and how you got interested in the field of astronomy/astrophysics?

I received my BS in Astronomy & Physics from University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1975. I recently retired as an engineer and have returned to UW as a student. I owe my interest in astronomy and astrophysics to my father, who was an amateur astronomer.

3. What projects are you currently working on and what are you most excited about?

I am presently investigating variability of quasar Broad Absorption Lines (BAL) using SDSS / BMH data.

4. Can you share with us a unique hobby or interest that you have outside of work?

I have a private pilot’s license, although I am not currently active.
