In addition to the primary SDSS photometry and spectroscopy, there are a few extra catalogs created by our collaborators that are distributed through the SAS. These Value-Added Catalogs (VACs) are listed below, and include catalogs that were released in earlier data releases.
Starflow spectroscopic distances, masses, and ages in MWM for DR19
Parameter based ages, masses, and distances for MWM DR19 stars, using normalizing flows
Catalog Data
Abstract
This value-added catalog presents age and mass posteriors for stars in DR19, derived using the StarFlow model described in Stone-Martinez et al. (2025). This includes stars observed by SDSS-V for Milky Way Mapper, as well as stars previously observed by SDSS-IV for APOGEE-2. StarFlow uses a normalizing flow based model to estimate the age and mass posteriors from the stellar parameters and abundances and associated uncertainties. The model is trained on stellar parameters from the MWM APOGEE pipeline, and ages/masses from the APOKASC-3 and APO-K2 asteroseismic catalogs (Pinsonneault et al. 2025; Schonhut-Stasik et al. 2024). StarFlow also returns the density of training data that exists around each stars parameters, providing an indication of how well covered any region of parameter space is and if any given stellar age is an extrapolation or simply not covered by the model. This VAC contains 3 files, one summary file with the ages, masses, and the associated training space density, and two more files with and full age and mass posteriors for ~380,000 stars. The exact number will change depending on the cutoff applied to the training space density.
