In addition to the primary SDSS photometry and spectroscopy, there are a few extra catalogs created by our collaborators that are distributed through the SAS. These Value-Added Catalogs (VACs) are listed below, and include catalogs that were released in earlier data releases.
MaNGA Visual Morphologies from SDSS and DESI images
Visual morphological classification of DR17 MaNGA galaxies based on DESI images
Abstract
This catalogue contains a pure visual morphological classification based on inspection of image mosaics using a new re-processing of SDSS and Dark Energy Legacy Survey (DESI) images, for all galaxies in MaNGA DR17. A digital image processing exploits the advantages of both SDSS and DESI images and allows us to identify internal structures and low surface brightness features. We provide the corresponding SDSS and DESI mosaics for all MaNGA DR17 galaxies. A new estimate of the morphological CAS parameters from the DESI images (Concentration, Asymmetry and Clumpiness) is also provided. A description of the methods used in this VAC is presented in a companion paper, Vázquez-Mata et al. (2022). We recommend that you always use the most recent version of this VAC, which is DR17 (v2.0.1). An earlier version of this VAC based on MaNGA DR15 is still available on the SAS here (v1.0.1), with datamodels available here here. Acknowledgments: The subject of the classification of MaNGA galaxies was conceived as a project for training and education under the supervision of the authors of this catalogue. This has been possible through formal education with a sustained participation of high school and early undergraduate students. The MaNGA team at UNAM highlights and favors the participation of students of different school levels in Sloan IV projects. Special thanks to: Isai Chavez, Luis A. Fuentes, Brenda Garcia, Juan G. Jose, Aurora Leon, Luis C. Mascherpa, Edgar Muñoz, Nayeli Pantoja, Arlin Rodriguez for their valuable contribution to image preparation and catalogue products.
